Port Haney Compost Education Garden
The compost education garden is jointly operated by the CEED Society and the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society (RMRC). As its name suggests, it is designed to inform urban dwellers how to successfully compost household waste and garden cuttings that might otherwise go into landfills, unnecessarily consuming energy and wasting valuable soil amendments.
The garden provides a terrific environment for learning about organic gardening and the simple art of backyard and worm composting. Composting workshops and tours can be booked by calling RMRC at (604) 463-5545. Scheduled workshops are on Saturdays.
The Garden is open for self-guided tours and visits from April to October, Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
Composting Tips
Get better compost by alternating layers of nitrogen-rich green (fresh grass, uncooked vegetable and fruit scraps, coffee grounds, etc.) and carbon-rich brown (dry leaves, straw, sawdust, dry grass, etc.). Give it air by turning it over frequently and keep it as moist as a well-wrung sponge.
-- Alternate
-- Aerate
-- Apply Moisture
